THIS FESTIVAL gathers dance artists who have been producing and creating exciting, innovative work in contemporary dance. This is the fi rst independent contemporary dance festival, an initiative of World Dance Alliance Philippines Choreographers’ Network, with the generous support of the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts. Contemporary dance has developed in “alternative” conditions, venues. Thus, this festival attempts to capture the work in their original contexts, in the intimate spaces for which they were created. Experience the works in the various spaces of the Cultural Center of the Philippines. (Myra Beltran, Festival Director)

ANATOMY PROJECTS: SUMMER BEGINS AND ENDS AS YOU WISH
multi-disciplinary collaboration by Green Papaya Art Projects
August 17 & 18, 5 PM, Bulwagang Amado Hernandez, Ticket P150
www.greenpapaya.org
Summer begins and ends as you wish examines the temporal and spatial politics of a live performance en route the fi rst modern ballet Nijinsky’s Afternoon of a Faun. Dream intermingles with reality, intoxication wanes into sobering existence. An attempted deconstruction, this solo piece tackles the promise and disillusion of seduction via little take home packages, you can fold, keep, read or even throw away.
VOLUNTEERS FOR COMATOSE
Dancing Wounded Contemporary Dance Commune, curated by Jose Jay Cruz
August 17 & 18, 6.30 PM, Tanghalang Huseng Batute, Ticket P200
The project positions the artist and the idea of performance – performance as illusion, the artist and audience as willing co-consipirators. Is there not an uncomfortable dubiousness in this whole bargain? A kind of self-inflicted coma? A refusal to wake up from the suspension of disbelief!
CARMEN DE LA CRUZ
Airdance, directed by Paul Morales
August 17 & 18, 8 PM, Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo Stage, Ticket P300
www.airdance.com.ph
Carmen de la Cruz is a Pinoy-retelling of Carmen, that famous story of love and unbridled passion, now set in a 1970’s Manila reeking in sex, drugs, religion and politics. This sensuous deconstruction of a timeless crime of passion has an eclectic style and daring physicality.

CROSSING BORDERS
Chameleon Dance Theater, curated by Raul Alcoseba
August 19 & 20, 5 PM, Bulwagang Amado Hernandez, Ticket P150
Dance has always lived in a homeland without borders and new work by emerging choreographers attempt to cross all borders in form, in idea, in desire. Crossing Borders is where new meanings emerge.
OVER 35 AND DANCING / ORDER FOR MASKS
Dance Forum, curated by Myra Beltran
August 19 & 20, 6.30 PM, Tanghalang Huseng Batute, Ticket P200
www.mbeltrandanceforum.com
Poetry and poetics – the poetics of being over 35 years old and dancing, and the poetry of Ms. Virginia Moreno, stand back to back in this program. Moreno’s poem Order for Masks as dance – as dancers over 35 articulate their aesthetics.
